Yes — West Africa is safe to travel when you plan with an experienced, reputable tour operator. Evans Travel & Tours has safely guided 1,000+ travelers across Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea since 2014. We partner exclusively with vetted local guides and drivers, monitor local conditions continuously, and provide 24/7 WhatsApp support throughout your journey. Popular destinations like Accra (Ghana) and Lagos (Nigeria) are well-developed tourism cities welcoming visitors daily.
The Voodoo Festival (Fête du Vodoun) is one of West Africa's most iconic cultural celebrations, held annually on January 10th in Benin and Togo. It honours the Vodoun (Voodoo) religion — one of the world's oldest spiritual traditions — with colourful ceremonies, traditional dances, sacred rituals, and community gatherings. Key highlights include the Python Temple in Ouidah (Benin), the Sacred Forest of Kpasse, and ceremonies in Lomé (Togo). Evans Travel & Tours offers dedicated Voodoo Festival tour packages with expert local guides who provide deep cultural context and safe access to the ceremonies.
For first-time visitors to West Africa, we recommend starting with: (1) Ghana — English-speaking, excellent infrastructure, safe for solo travelers, and home to Cape Coast Castle, Kakum National Park canopy walk, and vibrant Accra nightlife. (2) Nigeria — Africa's most populated and dynamic country, offering Lagos city tours, Olumo Rock in Abeokuta, the Benin Bronzes, and rich Yoruba and Igbo cultural experiences. (3) Benin Republic — home to the UNESCO Royal Palaces of Abomey, the Voodoo Festival, the Python Temple in Ouidah, and the Door of No Return. Evans Travel & Tours designs beginner-friendly multi-country itineraries with 24/7 support.
A two-week Ghana tour with Evans Travel & Tours typically starts from $1,200–$1,800 per person, depending on accommodation tier and group size. This includes private transportation, expert local guide fees, cultural site entry fees (Cape Coast Castle, Kakum National Park, Elmina Castle, etc.), and accommodation. International flights are not included. We offer budget, standard, and luxury options. Contact us for a free, no-obligation custom quote tailored to your travel dates and preferences.
The top destinations and must-see attractions in West Africa include: Lagos (Nigeria) — Africa's most vibrant megacity; Cape Coast Castle (Ghana) — UNESCO slave fort and Door of No Return; the Royal Palaces of Abomey (Benin) — UNESCO World Heritage site; Olumo Rock, Abeokuta (Nigeria) — legendary sacred rock fortress; Lomé and Kpalimé (Togo) — waterfalls and Voodoo culture; Kakum National Park canopy walk (Ghana); Grand-Bassam (Ivory Coast) — UNESCO colonial town; and Freetown Peninsula beaches (Sierra Leone). Evans Travel & Tours offers guided tours to all of these.

Absolutely. All our tours are fully customizable. Whether you want a 7-day Nigeria cultural tour, a 2-week Ghana heritage trip, a voodoo festival package in Benin and Togo, or a month-long multi-country West Africa expedition — we design a personalized itinerary tailored to your interests, budget, group size, and travel dates. Contact us for a free consultation.
The best time to visit most of West Africa is November to March (dry season), when temperatures are cooler, roads are accessible, and outdoor activities are most enjoyable. Ghana's peak season is November–March; Nigeria is comfortable October–March. For the Voodoo Festival in Benin and Togo, plan your trip around January 10th. We recommend booking at least 2–3 months in advance for festival season trips.
Yes. We arrange airport pick-up and drop-off in all our destination countries — including Lagos (LOS), Accra (ACC), Cotonou (COO), Lomé (LFW), Abidjan (ABJ), Freetown (FNA), and more. A vetted driver with a clearly marked sign will be waiting for you on arrival, ensuring a safe and stress-free start to your West Africa tour.
International flights are not included in our tour packages unless specifically stated. We focus on ground experiences: private transportation, accommodation, expert local guides, cultural site entries, and in-country logistics. We can recommend travel agents for flight bookings and advise on the best regional routing for multi-country West Africa tours.
Our professional West Africa tour guides speak English, French, and Spanish. They also speak key local languages including Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa (Nigeria), Twi, Ga (Ghana), Fon, Ewe (Benin/Togo), and more. This allows for deep, authentic cultural connections in every destination.
Depending on your group size and tour type, we provide air-conditioned cars (for 1–3 travelers), minivans (4–8), or buses (9+). All vehicles are well-maintained, equipped with safety features, and driven by experienced licensed local drivers who know every route across West Africa.
We understand plans can change. Cancellations made 30 days or more before departure are eligible for a refund (minus deposit/administration fees). Cancellations made less than 30 days before the trip may incur partial charges. Full details are provided at booking. We also recommend travel insurance for your West Africa trip. Contact us to discuss flexible rebooking options.
Yes — African diaspora and roots tourism is one of our most popular offerings. We design deeply meaningful heritage journeys for African Americans, Afro-Caribbeans, and others tracing their ancestral roots. These include visits to Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle (Ghana), the Door of No Return in Ouidah (Benin), the UNESCO Slave Route, Badagry slave history sites (Nigeria), and community visits with traditional chiefs and spiritual leaders. Many guests describe these tours as life-changing.
